CARE PATHWAYS IN THE TREATMENT OF WEIGHT AND EATING DISORDERS and Obesity

INTRODACTION
The aim of this formative project is to facilitate the learning of specific techniques in the treatment of ED and obesity. It is addressed to health workers in order to provide a specific methodological and practical competence. At the end of the course, health workers should be able to offer to the their clients an integrated assistance both on a psychological and a nutritional basis, available in the different levels of treatment: Outpatient treatment, hospital care, day hospital, residential inpatient treatment.
The course is therefore structured in theoretical lessons and practical exercises to enhance personal acquisition of the matter studied. The health workers will be involved for at least a week in an internship held at the specialized facilities “Palazzo Francisci” and “Nido delle Rondini” in Todi and the “Centro DAI” in Città della Pieve.
The basic problems and criticalities which are trying to be handled by the project are the followings:
- increase in the demand of specific specialized assistance by ED and obesity patients, forwarded to the integrated services network for ED and obesity;
- the need to apply new assistance protocols directed to ED patients and obesity, supplying integrated and easily accessible response during the different phases of treatment;
- to guarantee to the personnel an adequate training for the creation of an ED and obesity center in Malta.
GENERALS GOAL

To give to the ED and obesity care network personnel a practical specialized ability, both on an individual basis and for teamwork

To improve the personnel’s integration during the various phases of treatment

To improve the care network personnel’s specific knowledge and competences on ED and obesity.
SPECIFIC GOALS
-Application in the daily practice of the principles and procedures of EBM;
-Learning guidelines, protocols and procedures specific to ED and obesity;
-Learning paths, clinical care, diagnostics, rehabilitation;
-Appropriateness of health benefits for ED and obesity;
-Acquisition of inter and multi-professional integrated skills;
-Integration between hospital and territorial care;
-Acquisition of knowledge related to epidemiology, prevention and health promotion related to ED;
-Learning elements of health management;
-Acquisition of interpersonal skills (internal and external communication with patients), compassionate care.
TRAINING PROJECT RECIPIENTS
The training course is aimed at professionals who are involved in integrated multidisciplinary treatment of eating disorders. These professionals are called upon to carry out the training course together, so as to promote mutual understanding, integration and synergy among the team of professionals.
Therefore, the figures involved are: medical doctors, nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists, professional Educators, nutritional biologists, psychologists, social and health workers, philosophers.
